Wicomico Co. Health Department Hosts National Prevention Week

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Health Department is using this week to focus on preventing drug and alcohol addiction.

It’s called national prevention week, and it’s all about tackling the issue before it starts.

Cynthia Shifler with the health department tells 47 ABC the department will post educational resources online every day since they can’t hold in person events because of the coronavirus.

She says focusing on prevention is important because it’s separate from treatment, something that people are more familiar with.

“People get treatment, they understand that. But prevention is a little bit more vague, so it’s hard for them to put their finger on it,” Shifler said.
