Student writers helping document “These Strange Times”

BERLIN, Md. – A Berlin woman is asking students to document their experiences during this pandemic as part of a writing project called “These Strange Times”.

Salt Water Media in Berlin organized the project with the help of teachers, writers and community leaders. There are three different age appropriate writing prompts for students between grades 2 through 12. Students can submit anything from poetry to plays to journal entries and they say they’ve already received submissions from as far away as Iowa. They’re hoping to chronicle this time in history and provide a first hand account by the youngest members of our communities.

“We hear so much of what adults and authority figures have to say about this but I think it’s important for the young people to have a chance to express themselves because quite frankly what they write in these times, decades from now, will be primary source documents,” says Stephanie Fowler with Salt Water Media.

If they get enough submissions, they’ll put together an anthology that will be available in both digital and printed versions.

Parental consent is required. You can submit work to strangetimes@saltwatermedia.com. See the complete details below.
