Somerset Co. Public Schools announce graduation ceremony plans for both county high schools

WESTOVER, Md. – Somerset County Public Schools announced that both of the district’s high schools will hold modified graduation ceremonies for graduating seniors at the end of this month.

Washington High School & Academy will allow graduates to walk across a stage outside of the building and receive their diplomas on May 26th and 27th. Crisfield High School & Academy will hold their ceremony on May 28th and 29th in the school auditorium.

Both ceremonies will be limited to graduating seniors and their close family members by appointment time only, in order to comply with the governor’s barn on gatherings over 10 people. Social distancing will be enforced, along with the use of masks and gloves.

To pay tribute to Somerset’s graduating seniors, both schools are encouraging residents and businesses in Princess Anne and Crisfield to decorate their houses and storefronts in the local high school’s colors during Memorial Day week, May 24th through 30th.

“Although it will not produce the large crowds we are used to seeing at graduations in the past, we are proud to still give seniors and their families the experience of walking the stage to receive their diplomas in the safest way possible. I congratulate each graduating senior for their perseverance in finishing out the school year in these challenging circumstances and wish you all the best in your future plans,” said Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools Dr. John Gaddis in a statement.
