Si Podemos offers help during COVID-19 pandemic

GEORGETOWN, Del. – With every free mask and pair of gloves, the group Si Podemos or Yes We Can is doing all it can to help stop the spread of the coronavirus in the First State.

“So, if people are willing to volunteer, donate masks, gloves, food, we’re happy to take it,” said Wendy Sanchez, coordinator for Si Podemos.

“It’s like I said, it’s not for us, it’s to give back to the community,” said Sanchez.

This team says they started the group Si Podemos after they noticed that underserved communities in Delaware were among those getting hit worst by the virus.

“My grandfather tested positive, my aunts and uncles, cousins, and most of them work from the plant or some of them are in connection with people from the plant,” said Tito Vazquez, coordinator for Si Podemos.

That’s why this group is now depending on donations to help provide free masks and gloves as well as food and information on the virus to this community.

“We’ve been actually passing out flyers basically with a lot of information,” said Sanchez.

“We have different fliers from Beebe and from Nanticoke that they gave out to us,” said Sanchez.

After all, Si Podemos says it will take everyone working together to make it through the pandemic.

“Our community will learn that we’re all in this together as one,” said Amayrani Villalobos, coordinator for Si Podemos.

The group says they’re always in need of donations and they’re looking forward to hosting more events in the future to help provide critical items like masks to the community.
