Police: man charged with attempted murder following argument
SALISBURY, Md. – Police say a man is behind bars after he reportedly stabbed a 14-year-old and assaulted an adult during an argument late last week.
We’re told that shortly before 11 p.m. Friday evening, deputies with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office were called to PRMC for a report of a stabbing victim in the emergency room. On arrival, deputies met with the 14-year-old victim, who was suffering from a stab wound to their upper torso.
Further investigation revealed that one of the victim’s brothers was engaged in a verbal altercation with a male subject, identified as Steven Maurice Easley, in front of a residence in the 900 block of Powhatan Boulevard. During the altercation, the victim’s mother reportedly tried to intervene, but was assaulted by Easley who knocked her to the ground. While the mother was trying to get up off the ground, the victim and another one of their brothers got into a physical altercation with Easley for assaulting their mother.
At some point during the altercation, one of the victim’s brothers saw a knife in Easley’s possession, which he then heard hit the pavement during the scuffle between the victim and Easley. Before the mother could get up off the ground, it was learned the Easley got into the vehicle he arrived in and drive to intentionally run the mother over with the vehicle. Easley reportedly swerved in her direction, just barely missing running her over.
After Easley fled the scene, the victim reportedly went back inside the residence, where they noticed they had been stabbed. The mother and her fiancee took the victim to PRMC for treatment.
An arrest warrant was issued for Easley, who turned himself in on Monday. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, and dangerous weapon with intent to injure. He was held without bond.
