Phase one of Gov. Hogan’s Roadmap to Recovery starts Friday, some business owners don’t agree with reopening

MARYLAND– Under phase one of Governor Larry Hogan’s Roadmap to Recovery, retail stores and salons were allowed to open Friday at 5 p.m, but not all business owners agree with the timing.

“We’re elated just excited to be able to open my doors to welcome people to my new space,” Martha Ogburn, owner of Barefoot Baby Boutique, said.

“Honestly, if I had my options I would probably stay closed for months because of my family and my DE family and my clients,” Teena Twilley, owner of Designers Edge Hair Studio and Bella Vita Garden Spa, said.

Some businesses like, Designers Edge in Salisbury and Bomshell Boutique in Ocean City, feel that they are not ready to take the risk of opening their services to 50% capacity just yet.

Twilley said Designers Edge won’t open until Wednesday, and March said she’ll be open by appointment only.

“And that is just basically to be able to control the situation of the amount of people that come in,” Gina March, owner of Bomshell Boutique, said.

Both of these businesses said they are going to be focusing on how to keep customers and employees safe.

“I’m going to take even more precautions that’s why I’m not going to just open my doors,” March said.

And while some businesses aren’t opening Friday- Barefoot Baby Boutique in Salisbury is happy to share her new space in Seagull Square with customers

“I want new moms that just found out their pregnant, you know I want them to come in and see all the cool stuff I have,” Ogburn said.

Barefoot Baby Boutique said that they will be following guidelines now that they are open, and they will have masks and hand sanitizer for customers.

Designers Edge and Bomshell Boutique told us that they are looking to open up to more customers in two weeks.
