One Coastal Farm and Kitchen providing curbside pickup and takeout in Fenwick

FENWICK, Del.-Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, when restaurants were forced to go to carryout only, businesses like One Coastal Farm and Kitchen, have had to find ways to keep business flowing and serve the community.

“We feel a huge responsibility to them and to the community, not only to serve people safely, which has always been paramount for us, but to take this boldly by the horns,” Carlie Carey, owner and operator at One Coastal Farm and Kitchen, said.

For owners, Carlie Carey and Scott Carey, they never imagined to see their usual packed Fenwick restaurant now empty.

“To have your doors kinda forcibly closed for an unknown amount of time, it’s worst case scenario, that’s what it felt like,” Scott Carey, owner and farm manager at One Coastal Farm and Kitchen, said.

While they couldn’t provide business inside their restaurant, instead they looked for new ways to operate.

“There’s no more in house dining, so we’re kinda transitioning to that takeout game and that curbside pickup,” Carlie said.

We are told that adding curbside and takeout was never something they had to resort to before.

“We didn’t use to do much carryout and now that’s all we do, but it’s a blessing to be able to do anything,” Scott said.

But the changes seem to be favorable within the community.

“We have people donating a ridiculous amount of money each week for dinners, that to us is the heartbeat of what we do,” Carlie said.

While this pandemic has brought a roller coaster of emotions for the owners, they told us they hope to be back on their feet soon in full force.

“We’ll be back to some extent you know more than what we are now, we’ll all get there at some point,” Scott said.

The owners told us that they may continue doing more takeout in the future because of the positive response.

Plus, they add with Mother’s Day approaching they have some special things they are doing.
