NAACP “Call to Action” focuses on voter rights for upcoming elections

WICOMICO CO., Md. – The Wicomico County NAACP participated in a Call to Action Day on Monday by reaching out to lawmakers about the rights and safety of voters during upcoming elections.

Specifically, they want to make sure money is allotted for upgrading voting systems in order to comply with CDC guidelines amidst COVID-19. They’re also asking lawmakers to make sure voters have enough time to participate in elections which includes extended early voting and voting by mail. The Wicomico County NAACP President is urging other members and residents to contact their state senators to make their voices heard.

“They should adopt multiple measures to ensure voting is safe and accessible for all voters without sacrificing personal safety and health safety of all people,” says Mary Ashanti, the president of the Wicomico County NAACP Branch 7028.

Members of the NAACP also urged lawmakers to fight for equal safety protections for all communities amidst the pandemic. Ashanti says this was a nationwide Call To Action Day and you can participate by emailing your state senator.
