MERR Institute rescues seal pup at Cape Henlopen State Park

LEWES, Del. – On Tuesday, the MERR Institute rescued a seal pup.

We’re told the 2.5 month old seal was spotted on the bayside of the point at Cape Henlopen State Park and had been traveling with a gill netting wrapped so tightly around its neck that it had left an open 4-inch wide wound.

Biologists say if they had not cut the netting off it would have led to strangulation, but thankfully the seal showed immediate signs of improvement after the netting was removed.

The seal was named Haven and was taken to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in New Jersey for rehabilitation.
