Maryland SNAP program approved for online grocery purchases

BALTIMORE, Md. – There’s good news for SNAP users in Maryland. Officials say grocery shopping is about to get a whole lot easier. Starting next week, low-income families will be able to buy groceries online for pickup or delivery with their EBT cards. The process will function similar to the way a credit or bank card transaction occurs, SNAP recipients will be prompted to enter their EBT card details at checkout, along with the pin number associated with their card. To make sure things run smoothly, purchases will be piloted in some areas of the state starting Wednesday and then will be made available statewide starting Thursday. Stores participating in the pilot program will include ShopRite, Walmart, and Amazon.
