Local Haitian organizations team up to host drive-thru giveaway

LAUREL, Del. – On Sunday, members of the Haitian community both in Maryland and Delaware worked together to give out hundreds of free masks in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The event took place at Tabitha Medical Care in Laurel.

Haitian organizations like Tabitha Medical Care, One Way Insurance Group and the Haitian American Outreach Management Group in Wicomico County teamed up for Sunday’s event.

We’re told people drove up to get free masks, gloves, hand sanitizers as well as information about COVID-19 in different languages.

Organizers tell us that by working together they’ll be able to reach more people all across Delmarva.

“When we get together, where it’s two, three, four organizations get together we’ll be able to reach more people and get the job done,” said Nadya Julien, owner of Tabitha Medical Care.

Organizers say Sunday’s event also celebrated Mother’s Day in Haiti.

They say they’ll also be hosting more events like this one in the future and for information about these different organizations and their initiatives, you’re encouraged to contact Gertha Jean at 302-853-2905.
