Hair salons in Maryland are reopening, with new rules
SALISBURY, Md. – Hair salons in Maryland are beginning to reopen at up to 50 percent capacity and by appointment only since the state moved into phase one of the road map to recovery.
“It’s all scary for all of us and we’re all in this together, but I can tell you right now I’ve taken all the precautionary measures I know how to take,” said Teena Twilley, owner of Designer’s Edge.
In Salisbury, Designer’s Edge is getting ready for big changes that will help keep both employees and customers safe starting this Wednesday.
“We’ve installed plexiglass throughout the building, petitions in our shampoo area,” said Twilley.
“We also have UVC lights coming in another couple weeks, that kills germs as well,” said Twilley.
“For me personally, I was trying to put a little gap in there between clients, so I could really clean up my station,” said Antonio Nastasi, master stylist at Designer’s Edge.
They’ve also spaced out their chairs, removed all magazines and made it mandatory that everyone wear face masks.
“Our chairs are all over our building because our spa side is not going to be coming back for a while, so we’ve got that taken care of,” said Twilley.
“We’ve totally disinfected our whole entire building,” said Twilley.
On top of that, clients will need to get their temperature checked at the door as part of the team’s new health screening.
“I can’t take enough precautionary measures for the well being of my family members in this building and it’s for the clients’ well being as well,” said Twilley.
Despite the strict protocols, workers at Designer’s Edge tell us they’re glad to be back to serve their community as best they can and they hope these changes will help the state move in a positive direction.
“It is what it is and we’re going to do the best we can for our clients and we’re excited to come back and to see them just as much,” said Nastasi.
Designer’s Edge tells 47ABC their clients will also need to sign a health waiver when arriving and in an effort to limit cash transactions cash tips on credit cards will no longer be accepted.
Staff will also be required to keep their workspaces thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between each client.
