Delaware salons feel “blind sided”, three day notice before they could reopen
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Some Delaware businesses will be allowed to reopen on Friday and offer limited services but some say with just three days notice they won’t be able to do that safely.
47 ABC spoke with the owners of Stephan & Company Salon and Spa in Rehoboth Beach. They say they’re probably not going to reopen until June because many of the supplies they need won’t be available in time. They say they were blind sided by the governor’s recent announcement and they say some of the restrictions would make it hard to make a profit if they did open.
“I’ve talked with my colleagues as far as being salon owners and as stylists and we’re all just taken aback by it. We almost feel like guinea pigs in a way,” says Stephan Maybroda, one of the salon’s owners.
“How are they supposed to survive doing one client at a time with absolutely no help from assistants? That’s not even a quarter of their clientele,” says Michael Maybroda, one of the salon’s owners.
The owners of the Rehoboth Beach salon say they wish state leaders discussed reopening ideas with industry professionals before making a sudden change. They say if they did consult business owners, they may have decided to limit the number of clients based on square footage rather than a “one size fits all” limit.
