Chincoteague announces slow reopening of lodging beginning Friday
CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, Va. – Beginning on Friday, all hotels, motels, cottages, bed and breakfasts, rental homes, Airbnb’s, and campgrounds will be allowed to reopen for business at a 25% capacity.
Violation of this order will be classified as a class 1 misdemeanor. Officials say this modified opening may be extended or reduced as circumstances dictate.
At this time, there are five confirmed COVID-19 cases on Chincoteague Island, and 525 in Accomack County.
Residents and visitors are reminded that they must wear a mask or face covering when inside any Chincoteague business or public building. Social distancing also must be followed.
Chincoteague’s Mayor says that accommodations will continue increasing capacity in the following timeline, which is subject to change, but will happen no sooner then:
- May 15th: 25%
- May 22nd: 50%
- May 29th: 100%
