Beebe to open emergency department at South Coastal Health Campus with social distancing
LEWES, Del. – Beebe Healthcare’s new freestanding emergency department will be opening on Tuesday, May 5th, in a slightly different manner than normal for a new location’s grand opening.
Officials tell us a large social gathering with tours of the department was originally planned, but that was canceled in March due to coronavirus. Beebe will now be celebrating the opening of its new emergency department at the South Coastal Health Campus virtually, sharing the opening via videos and photos on social media.
Community members are asked to watch Beebe’s Facebook page on Tuesday morning for a very special video.
This new department will deliver much needed emergency services to the area, though not all services are identical to the acute-care hospital at the Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus. A freestanding emergency department operates without some of the services of a typical acute care hospital, such as operating rooms and cardiac catheterization labs, for those in need of immediate procedures.
Beebe’s South Coastal emergency department will feature 23 exam rooms, with six focused on expedited care for less serious ailments to receive quicker treatment. It will also have a 24/7 imaging department, readily able to provide access to x-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound services. This new emergency department is also prepared to handle COVID-19 patients if someone is in need of emergency services.
In the coming months, Beebe’s second cancer center will also open at the South Coastal Health Campus.
