47 ABC receives regional journalism award

1280 Murrow Award

SALISBURY, Md. – The Radio Television Digital News Association named 47 ABC as a 2020 Regional Edward R. Murrow award winner Tuesday. The award was given for the News Documentary aired in 2019 – Breaking the Stigma: Just Listen. The program, hosted by Evening Anchor Julian Sadur, highlights the stories of five members of the LGBTQIA community living on the Delmarva Peninsula. Over the course of the special, viewers get a brief insight into how each member came out, how they were received by family and friends, and how they feel society views the LGBTQIA community.

“The regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award recipients we announce today are doing an exemplary job of serving their communities by seeking and reporting the truth, raising issues that often serve as catalysts for positive change in their viewing and listening areas,” said Dan Shelley, RTDNA Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.

47 ABC is now under consideration for a National Murrow Award.

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.
