199 new COVID-19 cases, 7 new deaths in Delaware, Division of Public Health says

SMYRNA, Del. – The Delaware Division of Public Health says an additional seven people have died as a result of the coronavirus in Delaware.

Six of the seven individuals had underlying health conditions, and all ranged in age from 60 to 89. We’re told that six were from New Castle County, and one was from Sussex County.

The state also has an additional 199 cases, bringing the statewide total to 7,869 positive cases. 3,861 have been in Sussex County, 1,219 in Kent, and 2,738 in New Castle. At this time, 240 individuals are hospitalized, 39 of whom are critically ill.

A total of 3,545 Delawareans have made a full recovery.

In addition, the state will be holding two drive-thru saliva-based COVID-19 testing events this week. The first will be held on Thursday, May 21st, at Middletown High School, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Limited on-site registration will be available, but those interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register online to reserve their space and reduce wait time.

The second will be held on Sunday, May 24th, at the Dover DMV, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested can pre-register online.
