UMES announces accreditation to offer Physician Assistant program starting fall 2020

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore announced earlier this week that they received accreditation to offer its Physician Assistant program starting fall 2020.

This will allow the University to resume graduate-level instruction leading to a physician assistant degree during the 2020-21 academic year. We’re told that UMES is looking to enroll 20 new students in the program in August 2020, with plans to grow the program yearly.

The program will be 28 months in duration and include a didactic and experiential education components. Those who successfully complete the program will earn a Masters of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Students in the program will complete more than 2,000 hours in rotations including family medicine, general surgery, and mental health training. The course content aligns closely with that of medical school and the program is attractive to students of all career and educational backgrounds.
