Structure fire in Laurel deemed accidental

LAUREL, Del. – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal says a fire that damaged a storage structure in Laurel Sunday evening was accidental.

We’re told the fire was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m., in the 28000 block of Discount Land Road. Firefighters arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the fire.

State fire investigators were called to investigate, ultimately determining that the fire was caused by a malfunction at a piece of motorized equipment that had been parked in the structure after use.

We’re told one firefighter was treated at the scene for exhaustion, but no other injuries were reported. Damage has been estimated at $75,000.
