PRMC doctor anticipates Eastern Shore COVID-19 surge in two to four weeks

SALISBURY, Md. – 47 ABC spoke with a doctor at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for the latest on the coronavirus on Thursday. He says they’re getting a better idea of when the peak number of cases may hit here on the Eastern Shore.

Dr. Chris Snyder tells 47 ABC that PRMC is seeing a rise in positive cases every day with an additional 3 to 5 patients every 3 days or so. He believes the anticipated surge will happen in the next two to four weeks. Dr. Snyder says the sooner we hit the surge the sooner we can get over the hump and start to see cases decrease.

“We are definitely seeing a rise here. The rest of the country is hinting at a plateau but I don’t know what that is and we are kind of following suit with them. We tend to be about two to four weeks behind all theirs,” says Dr. Chris Snyder, the Chief Quality Officer at PRMC.

Dr. Chris Snyder says PRMC has already expanded from its normal 288 beds. Their new ventilation unit will take that number to almost 400 total beds because it’s adding about 40 more. That unit should be open in the next day or so.
