SEAFORD, Del. – With each box of food, the Sussex County Salvation Army in Seaford is making sure families in need are fed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As time keeps going with the coronavirus, and people are applying for jobs and applying for unemployment we wanted to come alongside them so that they can know that they’re not alone,” said Lt. Miguel Alban Guerrero at the Sussex County Salvation Army.

Every two weeks, Lieutenant Miguel Alban Guerrero and his team set up a drive-thru to help feed as many families as possible. On Tuesday, the group distributed 500 boxes of food to 500 families at their site.

And as more and more people come to the Salvation Army for help, the more and more things like food and monetary donations are needed, says Miguel.

“It all adds up, so we are getting contributions from different people from the community that understand that there’s a bigger need now, but we need a lot more help,” said Miguel.

And although this team is not able to meet face to face with their clients right now they are just grateful they’re still able to provide critical resources to them during this uncertain time.

“So, we have to stop that direct contact, which is difficult for us, but it’s just something to keep us safe and also our clients safe,” said Lt. Kathryn Alban Guerrero at the Sussex County Salvation Army.

Right now the Sussex County Salvation Army in Seaford is helping to feed about one thousand families per month.

Miguel says they will hold their next drive-thru food distribution event on April 28th at 9:30 AM. He adds that each family will only be able to receive one box of food, which includes items like meat, rice, and canned goods.
