Ocean City mayor provides update on COVID-19 protocols

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan held a press conference Friday afternoon to discuss additional protocols the resort town is taking to keep residents safe during this pandemic. The latest steps, outlined in a new emergency declaration, will now allow hotels and rentals to provide short term rental accommodations to essential lodgers only. Meehan says essential lodgers include people such as, health care professionals, first responders, domestic violence victims or those who’ve had to vacate their homes unexpectedly. Meehan adds these changes are critical in protecting the entire community.

“This was a community effort and it was something everybody got behind and we knew it was important, we knew it was something that we had to do and we were very grateful to have the support and assistance of the local hotel-motel-restaurant association,” said Meehan.

Meehan adds that the short term rental accommodation restrictions are set to last until April 30th. That’s when the beach and boardwalk are set to reopen as well.
