New device to protect healthcare workers in hospitals

DELMARVA–Atlantic General Hospital is using a new device to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

Dr. William Wild, who works in the Emergency Department, said he saw a physician from Taiwan make an intubation box made out of plexiglass to go over a patients face during an intubation procedure.

And now he’s using the same procedure at Atlantic General and seeing success.

The additional protective protection is reusable, unlike other protective gear that is consumable and in short supply.

“It gives another layer of protection because during that type of procedure there’s probably three or four other people who are also being exposed, so you gotta keep your front line staff disease free so they can keep seeing other people,” Dr. Wild, emergency physician, said.

Dr. Wild tells us that this device has gotten a great response across the nation and that he has made five for his group in the emergency department.
