Gyms in Maryland making plans for when they can reopen
MARYLAND–With states like Maryland laying our their plans for reopening, gym owners in the state are already planning for what that might look like.
“We’re just going to have to be very cautious with everyone, be upfront, just let them know that whatever they touch, they use we need to make sure it gets wiped down whenever they finish,” JD Cherry, owner of One More Rep, said.
Cherry said even before the stay at home orders went into place his gym in Salisbury was already taking steps to ensure clients remained safe.
“We’ve installed stations with hand sanitizer, every night the gym is being mopped down from top to bottom, making sure everything has been double cleaned than what we normally would do,” Cherry said.
Meanwhile, at Heirloom Athletics in Cambridge, owner Karah Bunde said they plan to do outdoor workout classes as soon as possible.
“We are actively preparing to one, be ready to get some gatherings outdoors when that is approved,” Bunde said.
She also said they’ll work within the guidelines to change the way they operate indoor as well, and that when the state says so she’ll be ready to open her clients back with welcoming arms.
“When we can get back together it will probably be the most fabulous day we’ve ever had, but we can wait,” Bunde said.
In the meantime though, both Cherry and Bunde told 47 ABC while this shutdown has hurt business they have learned to use new resources during the process that they will continue to use moving forward.
“We can do different kinds of training via internet, Zoom things like that with clients I think that opened a new category for us,” Cherry said.
Cherry said that when he reopens his gym the hours will stay the same and they will offer as many classes as possible.
Meanwhile, Bunde told us that her gym will continue to offer events she had to cancel because of the pandemic.
