Fruitland Police announce new K-9, named after Spencer Wiersberg

FRUITLAND, Md. – The Fruitland Police Department has announced the arrival of their new K-9, “Spence”.

Spence is named after Officer Spencer Wiersberg, who passed away back on January 12th. Spence is trained in Narcotics Detection and Tracking, and is paired with Corporal Shellenberger.

Police say the addition of Spence will make it possible to have a K-9 unit on duty daily to serve the citizens of Fruitland and Wicomico County. They also said that like his namesake, they expect Spence to have an immediate and lasting impact in the community he serves.
