First expanded COVID-19 testing site draws roughly 600 people in Georgetown

LEWES, Del. – Beebe officials say approximately 600 people were tested at the expanded mobile testing event in Georgetown on Wednesday.

This testing site was the first to launch under the governor’s and Division of Public Health’s plan to aggressively expand COVID-19 testing in Sussex County. The event ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with cars lining up before the start time. At this testing site, a combination of rapid antibody tests were available, which are able to tell if someone has been exposed to the virus and developed antibodies, and a PCR test through nasal or oral swaps, which determine if the person is actively infected.

The next testing event will take place on Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. near Beebe’s Georgetown Campus on Biden Avenue. The hours of Friday’s event were changed due to expected storms. The testing route will start in the parking lot of JD Shucker’s, and no appointment or doctor’s order is required.
