Firefighters applaud health care workers on coronavirus front line in Delaware

DELAWARE – On Tuesday, firefighters surrounded several Bayhealth locations to let health care workers there know that they appreciate them as they continue to fight against the coronavirus.
“We’re trying to brighten their day,” said David Carey, assistant chief at the Dover Fire Department.
“The lights and the sirens, showing that someone actually cares and they are just not there dealing with this on their own,” said Carey, “We’re all dealing with it together.”
With more and more coronavirus cases popping up in Delaware these healthcare workers are having to risk their own lives to save others. So, we are told keeping their spirits high is more important than ever.
“It may just give that one employee a chance to put a smile on their face for today and make them feel better about themselves and what they’ve done throughout the day and what they’re going home to later that night,” said Carey.
And while these first responders will also face new threats every single day from the virus they say right now it is all about standing behind these unsung heroes.
“A lot of them haven’t seen their families,” said Sean Christiansen, past fire chief at the Dover Fire Department.
“A lot of them are going through personal protective equipment daily and they just need to be shown that they’re appreciated,” said Christiansen, “We can’t be there with them working next to them, but they will sure as hell know that we’re behind them.”
Firefighters tell 47ABC they hope to do more processions like this one to continue supporting and encouraging Delaware’s healthcare workers.
We are told some of these first responders have personal ties to Bayhealth as they have loved ones working there.
