DNREC to begin limiting visitors in Del. state parks, wildlife areas
DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says they will soon be taking additional steps to limit the number of visitors in state parks and wildlife areas during the coronavirus outbreak.
Starting Friday, April 10th, park and wildlife area administrators will recommend that vehicle access be limited at times when visitor usage is causing crowding and preventing safe social distancing. DNREC’s Natural Resources Police will be implementing and enforcing these limits.
Officials are providing the following tips for visiting parks and wildlife areas at this time:
- Parks or wildlife areas may be restricted or even closed if it’s determined that there are groupings of people lacking responsible social distancing
- Although parks and wildlife areas are large, many visitors use the same amenities, so visitors should try to spread out from others in these areas
- Visitors to these areas are urged to limit the time of their visit so the overall number of people in each area is reduced
- Consider visiting parks and wildlife areas in off-peak times
- Bathrooms continue to be closed in all parks and wildlife areas, as well as boat ramps
- Beaches are closed except for exercise, dog-walking, and some vehicle surf-fishing under restricted conditions
- Out-of-state visitors must observe a 14-day quarantine before entering a park or wildlife area
- Responsible social distancing practices should always be maintained, even while outside
Citizens are reminded that all currently allowable activities are subject to change.
