Business Community Reacts to Newly Approved Funding

President Donald Trump has signed off on a measure that will send more money to small businesses, hospitals and for more coronavirus testing.

The measure sends about $320 billion for the *paycheck protection program* which is aimed at helping small businesses during this time.

Another $60 billion will go to the Small Business Administration’s specialized loan program.

But Bill Chambers of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce says he’s concerned this renewed funding might not make it to the people who need it.

“Its not looking good. I’m getting emails and calls by the minute from businesses all over the Lower Shore who are being told by local banks that the application process is already been shutdown and I’m talking about most of the local banks that you’re viewers would be familiar with,” says Chambers.

Chambers says through the existing program, local banks are sending applicants to a third-party site and that site is overwhelmed.

Chambers says the Chamber of Commerce is planning to reach out to a couple lawmakers to share what’s happening on the local level.
