Wicomico Humane Society to put regulations in place to protect animals from COVID-19

SALISBURY, Md. – Humane Societies on the Eastern Shore are also taking precautions to protect both themselves and the animals they take care of from the coronavirus. Effective Friday, the Wicomico County Humane Society announced that they are airing on the side of caution and new procedures will be put in place to keep the virus from being passed on to their animals. Executive Director Kim Nock tells 47 ABC they’re asking visitors to not stick their hands in dog kennels or cat cages. People are also being asked to refrain from coming into the shelter to play and socialize with animals.  And if you’re looking to adopt, talk to kennel staff about what would be a good option for your specific situation. She says this will limit taking out dogs that would not be a good fit for your family.

“We’re just looking at sanitation purposes we’re trying to control the spread. If it is going to hit us, we want to control it as much as possible. We’re asking when people come in that they sanitize their hands before they come into the facility,” said Nock.

Nock adds that if people want to come in to walk dogs, they should not come in big groups and keep smaller children out of the shelter as well.
