UMES cancels spring commencement ceremony, says classes will finish up online

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore alerted students Thursday night that the rest of the spring semester will be finished online in accordance with recommendations from the University System of Maryland related to the rapid spread of COVID-19.

Students were notified in part by an email sent out by university president Dr. Heidi Anderson.

In the email, she says that students will be able to come back to campus to gather personal belongings in the next week or so.  According to Dr. Anderson, they are “working on an orderly reservation process to maintain social distancing guidelines” and will only allow a certain number of people in a building at a time.

As for spring commencement, Dr. Anderson writes that although there will be no physical commencement, they are working on “creative solutions to celebrate” graduates’ amazing achievements.
