Somerset Co. caregiver charged with theft

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Maryland State Police say an investigation has led to charges for a Somerset County caregiver after learning that she allegedly stole money from the individuals she was caring for.

According to police, during the last week of December 2019, Maryland State Police were contacted by a victim who reported the alleged thefts. The victim, in his 60s, reported that he and his elderly father were both disabled and live together at a home in Princess Anne. Both require in-home assistance and had hired 34-year-old Sandra Elliot in November of 2019 to provide the necessary help.

Throughout the investigation, police developed evidence indicating that Elliot had made unauthorized purchases, ATM withdrawals, and cashed fraudulent checks involving both victims. The total amount of thefts from both victims is believed to exceed $20,000.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Elliot, charging her with 27 counts of theft, fraud, forgery, and other related charges. Elliot was taken into custody on January 28th, and was released on $20,000 bond. She is awaiting trial.
