Hundreds take part in annual Lucky Leprechaun 5K
MILTON, Del. – Over 400 people strapped on their shoelaces and hit the pavement on Sunday for this year’s Lucky Leprechaun 5K in Milton and it was all for a good cause.
The event, which took place at the Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant kicked off the town’s St. Patricks Day Parade.
With the holiday around the corner, a lot of these runners were decked out in green.
Proceeds collected at the event will go towards the Milton Chamber of Commerce as well as the Milton Fire Department and their expansion project.
Organizers say events like this one play a huge role for community members.
“It just has a really great small-town feel,” said Mary Ellen Kiernan, a spokesperson.
“You know this area is growing, which is great, but this is one of those things that remind us we still are a small town and family-friendly events like this are important,” said Kiernan.
Kiernan says proceeds collected at the event will also go towards the Gladys Wilkins Seeding the Future Scholarship Fund supporting students pursuing a career in sustainable agriculture.
