Greenwood house fire ruled accidental

GREENWOOD, Del. – Delaware Fire Marshals say a fire that damaged a home and displaced a family of four Wednesday morning was accidental.

The fire was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m., in the 100 block of Duck Creek Lane. Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke and flames coming from the structure.

Further investigation revealed that the fire was caused by the failure of an electrical appliance cord serving a heating pad in a second floor bedroom.

Fire damage has been estimated at $35,000.
