Dorchester County celebrates Harriet Tubman Day
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – On Tuesday, those in Cambridge celebrated the life of civil rights activist and abolitionist Harriet Tubman as part of Harriet Tubman Day.
For the past few days, community members have celebrated the abolitionist who risked her life to lead hundreds of families to freedom through the Underground Railroad.
We are told a lot of special events in honor of Harriet Tubman already took place at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park & Visitor Center.
And members of the community say Harriet Tubman Day plays a huge role in preserving Tubman’s history.
“She put her mark on the fact that you just couldn’t escape, you had to see if you could come back and help others and that’s why we celebrate her, her experiences,” said the Harriet Tubman Museum Curator, William Jarmon.
There will be a banquet this upcoming Saturday to celebrate the life of Harriet Tubman. The event will take place at the Elks Lodge 223 in Cambridge. For more information, click here.
