Chaos erupts in 1A quarterfinal between Edmondson and Crisfield

CRISFIELD, Md- Two teams with aspirations of extending their basketball seasons will have wait. The MPSSAA 1A State Quarterfinal game between Edmondson-Westside and Crisfield was suspended after a huge scuffle ensued late in the third quarter.

Edmondson led 47-27 with 3:23 left in the third quarter when a Crisfield player was fouled hard under the basket. After the play, numerous players took exception and a confrontation under the basket led to a number of fans running on to the court.

When officials finally got things under control, players were escorted to locker rooms, where they waited over 30 minutes for Maryland State Police to clear the gym of spectators. After the refusal of several fans, reps decided to call the game for the day.

47abc is awaiting word from the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association on a resolution to the contest.
