Berlin Mayor issues statement on COVID-19

BERLIN, Md. – Berlin Mayor Gee Williams has issued a statement regarding steps the town is taking towards the prevention of the coronavirus.

We’re told the town has been in regular contact with the Worcester County Health Department as well as the Maryland Department of Health and is carefully monitoring the evolving situation. Effective immediately, all Town officers with public access will be closed to non-employees. This includes Town Hall, Planning, and the Visitor Center.

Utility bill payments may be made online or by utilizing the drop boxes at Town Hall. For Planning Department applications and permits, you should call 410-629-1483 or 410-641-4143. While utility bills will continue to be generated, interest and penalties will be waived for the time being, and disconnections of service will be on hold. At the end of the waiver period, full payment will be required to avoid further charges.

In addition, the following public events are canceled, but may be rescheduled at the organizer’s discretion:

  • Makers Market (April 10th)
  • Spring Celebration (April 11th)
  • Clean-Up Day (April 18th)
  • Berlin Little League Day (April 18th)

At this time, no further disruptions or reductions of Town services are planned, with the exception of Bulk Waste Collection originally scheduled for April 22nd and 29th. Those will be rescheduled to a later date.
