Treatment plant to get new upgrades for electrical system

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.  – The Rehoboth Wastewater Treatment Plant project will take longer than expected to complete because of issues with the plant’s electrical system.

This project consists of installing a three-mile pipeline that will pump treated wastewater into the ocean.

According to the county engineer, officials have requested a one-year extension to revamp the plant’s electrical system.

That is because the plant’s current electrical system is reaching the end of its life.

Sussex County Engineer Hans Medlarz says this is just the second phase of a four-phase project.

“Right now the most critical component is the electrical upgrades because that would replace an end-of-life span electrical system with brand new electrical conductors and controls as well as a full generator for backup for the entire facility,” said Medlarz.

Medlarz says the Rehoboth Wastewater Treatment Plant project is expected to be completed by next summer.
