Deadly pedestrian crash in Lewes

LEWES, Del. – An investigation is underway in Lewes after a man was killed while trying to cross Coastal Highway.

Delaware State Police say they responded to Coastal Highway (Route 1) in the area of Shady road at around 6:15 pm Thursday.

They say a pedestrian crossed the highway, stepping from the median into the path of a 2020 Chevy Tahoe.

Investigators say the man was wearing dark clothing and wasn’t using a flashlight.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Coastal Highway northbound was closed for nearly 3 hours.
