Redevelopment plans for Easton

EASTON, md — Easton officials have big plans for their town and they say after years of brainstorming, people can expect to start seeing changes very soon.

“Our vision really is about activation, getting the town to be more vital,” says Traci Ward, Executive Director of Easton Economic Development Corporation.

The Easton Economic Development Corporation  has a number of revitalization projects in the works for the town.

“We have a number of beautiful buildings in our downtown that we think would be ripe for redevelopment so we’re very excited for the potential of new housing units specifically in some of our historic properties,” says Ward.

Members of the Corporation say in 2020 they want to solidify plans to redevelop their waterfront , but in the meantime people can expect to see renovations at the Easton Point park.

“We’re going to have an 11 acre park on water those renovations are going to start this year,” continued Ward.

Also in the works this year is a new 6-mile bike trail.

Officials say all these changes  will not only benefit Easton but surrounding areas as well.

“We’ll see a positive impact at our stores and galleries and also the outlying businesses as well, not only in Easton but in towns near us like St. Michaels, Cambridge and some others that are around the mid shore,” says Ross Benincasa, Executive Director of Easton Business Alliance.

Overall, we’re told the goal with all of this is to attract a younger crowd to the area, generating more activity in the town.

“We have an incredible amount of business and commerce occurring here, what we want to see are more young people enjoying our bars and our restaurants, coming to our events,” says Ward.

Officials add that they’re hoping to get a brewery this year. If anyone is interested , you’re asked to get in touch with the Easton Economic Development Corporation.
