Proposed “exhibition driving” penalties could impact Ocean City
MARYLAND – State lawmakers are proposing more fines for reckless drivers during special events like H2Oi in Ocean City.
Senator Mary Beth Carozza introduced Senate Bill 878 this week. If passed someone who does “exhibition driving” during special events in Worcester County would be fined. The previous bill that was passed just penalized drivers for speeding in those zones. However, Carozza feels it’s important to define exhibition driving, a common occurrence in Ocean City.
“What we found is we need to address that the skidding, the burnouts, the reckless driving that is causing so many safety concerns on our streets, on our sidewalks where are families are spending their time,” says Republican Sen. Mary Beth Carozza, representing District 38.
The bill was formally introduced this week with bipartisan cosponsors and Carozza says a similar bill was filed on the house side as well. This comes after thousands of drivers flooded the resort town in 2019, causing major headaches for police.
