Man arrested for DUI

SEAFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police arrested a man Saturday night for driving under the influence.

Police said that 48-year-old, Shawn H. Wingate, was driving westbound on Old Furnace Rd. in the area of Middleford Rd., Seaford, and was observed dragging a “No Parking” state highway sign under the passenger-side rear tire.

Police said when they pulled Wingate over for a traffic stop they detected an odor of alcohol, while speaking with him.

When police did a DUI investigation, they found Wingate had four previous DUI convictions, making this one his fifth offense.

Wingate was taken into custody and charged with fifth offense DUI, leaving the scene of a property collision accident, failure to have insurance identification, and failure to report a collision involving alcohol or drugs.

Wingate was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $12420.00 secured bond.
