Man accused of sexually abusing relative for 7 years, bail set at $1.09 million

SMYRNA, Del. – The Delaware State Police says a Smyrna man is facing more than fifteen counts related to sex abuse of a minor, for allegedly assaulting a relative over the course of seven years.

According to officials, Michael Boorman was charged on Tuesday after detectives learned he abused the victim starting when she was six-years old and continuing until she was 12-years-old. The abuse reportedly happened between January 2012 and September 2019 at the victim’s home on Blackbird-Greenspring Road, as well as at other locations in the Smyrna area.

The 40-year old is charged with the following offenses:

  • Rape 1st degree (3 counts)
  • Rape 2nd degree
  • Sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust 1st degree (4 counts)
  • Sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust 2nd degree
  • Continuous sexual abuse of a child
  • Dangerous crime against minor less than 14
  • Criminal sexual conduct (4 counts)
  • Unlawful sexual contact with person less than 13 (2 counts)

Boorman was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,090,000.00 cash bail.

Due to the sensitive nature of the incident and out of respect to the victim only limited information is being released.
