Mace’s Lane Middle School launches new mentorship program

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – School counselors at Mace’s Lane Middle School are taking steps to build a more positive atmosphere for students.

The school recently launched a new mentorship program, which encourages eighth graders to apply and mentor seventh and sixth graders.

We are told the new program will help improve students’ leadership and social skills as well as students’ grades.

School counselor Jennifer Lake tells us the program is also designed to help address issues like bullying.

She says the program also gives students a chance to build new relationships with others.

“If the mentees, if they need additional support like if they’re not able to get to a school counselor or a school social worker, they’ll have an additional person in the school that they can actually come to and confide in,” said Lake.

According to Lake, the new program also gives seventh and sixth graders a sense of belonging in the school community.
