Lewes man arrested on drug, weapon charges following traffic stop

MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a Lewes man Tuesday afternoon after he was found in possession of drugs and a weapon during a traffic stop.

At around 1:30 p.m., a trooper stopped a vehicle on Indian Mission Road for having window tint without a waiver. On contact with the driver and sole occupant, 52-year-old Joshua Wharton, an odor of marijuana was detected, and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the search, the following was located and seized:

  • Approximately 57.11 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately .14 grams of crack cocaine
  • Acetaminophen 325 mg and Hydrocodone Bitartrate 7.5 mg (3 pills)
  • A large machete
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • More than $200 in suspected drug money.

Wharton was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance tier 3 quantity, two counts of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to have insurance identification, and operating a vehicle with improper window tinting.

He was later released on his own recognizance. No mugshot is available at this time.
