Fundraiser for new Cambridge Police dog after sudden death of K9 Dani
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A Maryland non-profit, known as the Chesapeake K9 Fund, needs the public’s help raising 10-thousand dollars for a new police K9 in Cambridge.
This comes after the police department’s K9, Dani, unexpectedly passed away earlier this month. Officers say Dani was dual purpose trained which means she helped officers detect narcotics as well as track the scent of a suspect or missing person. Her partner, PFC Mark Shayne, tells 47 ABC that police K9s like Dani are crucial and help communities in countless ways.
“That’s really the only way that we’re going to stop the drug trafficking in Cambridge and everywhere is using K9s, using their ability to smell the drugs that we can’t smell and make the arrests that we need to,” says Shayne.
The Cambridge Police Department says the community has already been very supportive with this fundraising effort but a minimum of 10-thousand dollars is required to fully train and equip the department with a new K9.
All money raised will go directly towards the costs for the department to get a new K9. Click here if you’d like to donate.
