Dover man arrested for theft following vehicle chase
OCEAN VIEW, Del. – Delaware State Police say a Dover man was arrested Monday night on theft charges following a vehicle chase.
At around 11 p.m., troopers were called to the 30000 block of Teal Court in Ocean View for a reported theft in progress. On arrival, a victim told police that he witnessed 30-year-old Bryan Denegal, break into his vehicle and take items. When the victim approached Denegal, he took off running towards a vehicle, a 2007 black Chevy Cobalt.
A short time later, a black Chevy Cobalt was seen driving westbound on Waterway Drive, with a driver matching the description of the suspect. Troopers tried to stop Denegal, but he failed to stop and continued to flee, traveling at a high rate of speed and committing multiple traffic violations. Denegal continued onto Island Drive, where he reportedly drove into the front yard of a residence and almost hit a 53-year-old male resident who was outside. The chase then continued onto Teal Court, where Denegal hit a concrete fence pole and drove into a front yard, causing minor damage. He then hit a mailbox on Marlington Road before eventually losing control of his vehicle on Cedar Neck Road, hitting a telephone pole and a tree.
Police say Denegal was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Beebe Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
A search of Denegal’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of multiple stolen items from the area.
We’re told that when Denegal is released from the hospital, he will be charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, reckless endangering first and second degree, disregarding a police officer signal, four counts of theft, four counts of leaving the scene of a property collision accident, criminal mischief, driving a vehicle under the influence, and multiple traffic related offenses.
