Construction progress on Wicomico’s new inclusive baseball field
WICOMICO CO., Md. – Construction on Wicomico County’s new little league field, for athletes with disabilities, began this week and it should be done in about two months.
In just the last three days, crews have excavated and put the first couple layers of material down. We’re told this portion of the field could be done in as little as two weeks. Right now, crews are putting the curb around the perimeter which is what they glue the carpet to. But they have some other exciting things to add before it’s complete.
“Then we will start to install the fencing, backstop fencing. We will have sidewalk going around the whole property so that people can basically have a big loop and always be on a sidewalk and make it easier to get everywhere,” says Chuck Poole, the Superintendent for Wicomico County Parks.
As a reminder, Field 7 ½ will host a Challenger Little League here on the Eastern Shore. The field should be playable in April and officials hope to announce an opening day in the coming weeks. They’ve also made some upgrades to older parts of the park to bring it up to speed with the new field.
