40th Anniversary for Salisbury shelter

SALISBURY, Md.- A shelter in Salisbury is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year  and to celebrate  the shelter plans on making some improvements.

Since the first executive director of Christian Shelter Incorporated, Anthony Dickerson, took his position in September 2019 he has made considerable progress and hopes to continue to do so.

Dickerson plans to upgrade the organization’s facilities and add new programs, like a career center and a high school diploma program.

Because there is an increase in the amount of children that the shelter is seeing Dickerson said programs like these are vital.

“34% of our shelter has children and that’s a high number, we have about 26 children as we speak now,” Anthony Dickerson, Exec. Dir. of Christian Shelter Inc., said. “Here we will give them that one on one and so that’s going to really to give them an incentive to stay on task and do what they need to do.”

Other projects the shelter plans on tackling include adding a child care facility and a playground.

Starting Wednesday, Hope Incorporated will visit the shelter every Wednesday to help people get ID’s and birth certificates.
