Wico. shelter at capacity, no surrenders this month

WICOMICO CO., Md. – The Humane Society of Wicomico County has reached maximum capacity so it’s asking for the public’s help.

Officials say the shelter will not be taking any walk-in owner surrenders for the rest of January. This is a result of supply and demand because they typically get more surrenders in the months after the holiday season. Just recently, the shelter changed over to “no-kill” which means there are even more animals in need. Officials say the best say you can help is to adopt if you can.

“We have four rows of ten kennels inside. If we could clear up a row that would really help us out a lot. But ’tis the season for a lot of animals to be in need right now,” says Kim Nock, the Executive Director of the Wicomico County Humane Society.

They also recommend that if you call them first if you have an animal that needs to be re-homed. The shelter can be reached at 410-749-7603.

Another way you can help the shelter is by becoming a foster or volunteer. Click here for more information about the shelter.
